Sarjanakucing21 - Iran's players did not sing their national anthem before their 2022 FIFA World Cup opening game against England.

Quoted from TheHindu.comAhead of the match, captain Alireza Jahanbakhsh said the team would decide "collectively" whether or not to refuse to sing the national anthem in support of anti-government protesters in Iran.

The 11 Iranian players stood expressionless as their national anthem reverberated around the Khalifa International Stadium, in support of the anti-government in Iran.

Iran has seen two months of nationwide protests since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in morality police custody on September 16.

Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish origin, died three days after her arrest in Tehran over alleged violations of the Islamic republic's dress code for women, including the mandatory headscarf.
